Box Score RICHARDSON, TX - The UTD women's soccer team only got one goal in their home opener against Austin College Tuesday night, but it was all they needed as the Comets made a 1-0 halftime lead stand up for their first victory of the season.
Freshman
Katie Makanani lifted a 20-yard shot over a crowd and out of the reach of AC goalkeeper Kaitlin Elledge with just :56 left before halftime to put UTD on top to stay. It was the Plano freshman's first goal of the season and only the second the Comets (1-1-1) had scored in their first three games. Sophomore
Evan Jones got credited with an assist on the play.
Working with the wind at their backs in the second half, UTD cranked up the offensive pressure and out-shot the Lady 'Roos 8-1 to finish with a 13-6 advantage in that statistical category. UT goalkeeper
Andrea Jones had to make just four saves on the night, with only one coming after halftime. The Comets, meanwhile, kept Elledge busy with four shots on goal in the second period.
Austin College, which blanked ASC member Mary Hardin-Baylor 5-0 in their opener Saturday, fell to 1-1-0.
