UTD Battles Two Of SCAC's Best Into Overtime, But Can't Add Another Win

Goals Hard To Come By Against Southwestern, Team Dodges Bullets vs. Trinity

JUNIOR KRISTINA KINNER SCORED TO TIE UP THE GAME AGAINST POWERHOUSE TRINITY.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RICHARDSON, TX - The UTD women's soccer team held its own on their home turf against some top-notch competition out of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), but ended the weekend having to settle for a tie and a loss, both in double-overtime.

On Friday night, UTD and Southwestern (1-0-1) battled for 110 minutes and had to settle for a 0-0 scoreless tie. Saturday, UTD finally wilted under a constant Trinity offensive pressure and fell 2-1 in the 101st minute of play. The Comets are now 1-2-2 on the season.

In the Friday night tie, it was the Comets who were frustrated that they couldn't come up with a way to put the ball in the net. After being outshot 5-1 in the first half, UTD actually put the pressure on Southwestern after the first intermission, outs, however, was able to continually dodge bullets from five different Comets who had multiple shots on goal.

UTD keeper Andrea Jones had to make only two saves in the game as the Comet defense continually turned away the Southwestern attack. UTD had several chances to put the game away, but dead-on shots either sailed high or were knocked away by Snyder.

The tide was turned on Saturday night against perennial SCAC powerhouse Trinity, which had played a 2-2 double-overtime tie with UT-Tyler Friday. The Tigers continually assualted the UTD defense, launching 24 shots and forcing Jones into making 10 saves. At the half, the Comets had taken just three shots and forced just a single save.

Trinity finally converted to take a 1-0 lead at 56:25 on a Alex Leamy goal, but UTD was able to answer at 74:59 when Kristina Kinner took a crossing pass from freshman Leah Bowyer and tied the score at 1-1. UTD continued its battle throughout the rest of regulation and one full overtime period before Abigail Loar got the game-winner 1:57 into the second overtime period.

UTD did manage to crank up its offensive push after halftime again, taking seven shots and forcing three Trinity saves.

UTD faces another SCAC member next weekend when the Comets travel to Hendrix College in Arkansas.
