– The UT Dallas women's soccer team has been trying to solve the mystique behind the national powerhouse Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls since the two teams came into the American Southwest Conference. Saturday afternoon was no different as UTD gave an intense and determined effort, but still came up on the short end of a 3-1 loss.

HSU, which leads the ASC with a 5-0 record and has lost just once this season, kept the offensive pressure on the Comets the entire match and had a 3-0 lead until goalkeeper Andrea Jones came up to the net on a last-second corner kick and punched in UTD's only goal. It was the first collegiate goal for the UTD junior, who spent most of the afternoon dodging 12 HSU shots and making five saves.

Hardin-Simmons held a slight 12-10 advantage in shots, but faced just one real scoring opportunity from the Comets in making five saves. Midway through the first half, down 1-0, UTD's Emily George broke through and had a point-blank shot at the near corner of the goal. A solid shot, though, was stopped by a diving Christina Carr, UTD's goalkeeper.

HSU had 12 corner kick opportunities compared to just one by the Comets.

The Cowgirls got the game-winner just 16:12 into the match on a redirect from Erin Low. In the first 17 minutes of the second half, a pair of hard, medium-range shots from HSU defenders Sarah Stansell and Carlyn Powers got through the UTD defense in front of the net and the Cowgirls had a comfortable 3-0 lead.

The loss was UTD's first in conference as the Comets fell to 3-1-1, 1-1/2 games behind the Cowgirls. UTD now must take to the road for a meeting with surprising second-place Mary Hardin-Baylor and Howard Payne next weekend.
