RICHARDSON, TX (09.01.09)
- The UT Dallas women's soccer team found itself in familiar territory following Tuesday night's 2009 season opener, seeing a big zero underneath the VISITOR sign on the home field scoreboard.

Unfortunately for the Comets, who posted 13 shutouts in 2008, there was an identical goose egg underneath the home tally after UTD and Austin College battled through two overtime periods before settling for a 0-0 tie.

Emily Hokanson Mug
Despite the tie, UTD played much better than it did when it lost a scrimmage match with the Lady 'Roos 2-0 a week ago. The Comets had several prime scoring opportunities, forcing AC goalkeeper Kaitlin Elledge to make a game-saving save on a point blank second-half shot from freshman Emily Hokanson; then several leaping attempts at three strong shots that sailed just over the crossbar.

In the first half, UTD built a lead in the shooting category and had two long-range shots from Katie Makanani and Liz Dillon sail just over the net. In the second half, Hokanson almost put one past Elledge, then the Comets missed out on a prime opportunity late in the first overtime period when Leah Bowyer had a chance in front of the net off a corner kick that again got chipped a bit high.

Despite being outshot (11-10 and 6-4 on goal), UTD keeper Andrea Jones had just one truly strong shot attempt to stop in her six saves.

The Comets (0-0-1) travel to Memphis, TN this weekend to meet Cal Lutheran and Rhodes College in a weekend tournament.
