Bowyer Racks Up The Hat Trick As
Comets Run Over LeTourneau, 5-0

UTD 'S FIFTH STRAIGHT SHUTOUT GIVES COMETS SEVEN STRAIGHT WITHOUT A LOSS

LEADING SCORER LEAH BOWYER HAD HER THIRD MULTI-GOAL GAME OF THE SEASON.
Box Score RICHARDSON, TX (10.16.10) – After a couple of early season stumbles, the young UT Dallas women's soccer team is beginning to show it still belongs among the top teams in the American Southwest Conference. Saturday afternoon, junior Leah Bowyer picked up a hat trick and UTD posted its fifth straight shutout in a 5-0 whitewash of LeTourneau in the home finale.

The Comets, who have now gone seven games without a loss since dropping an 0-2 decision to nationally-ranked Hardin-Simmons back on Sept. 24, scored early and often to put away the winless YellowJackets (0-13-1, 0-8-1) and pick up their fifth straight shutout win.

In the last seven games, the Comets have outscored their opposition 31-1 and have remained firmly in the No. 3 spot in the ASC standings, behind league leaders HSU and UT Tyler. UTD (now 9-5-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the ASC), has just three conference games left and plays a pair of tough road opponents next weekend at Concordia (5-3-1) and UT Tyler (8-1-0).

Bowyer, who has had three multi-goal games this season, scored twice for the Comets in a 2-minute span Saturday to start the ball rolling again for UTD. She scored on a double header from Brittany Ansel and Katie Makanani with the first goal just 16 minutes in, then beat the goal keeper on the right side after Emily Hokanson found her on a pass from the middle at the 18:41 mark.

Krista Howard
made it 3-0 early in the second half, bumping in an Ansel corner kick in the 52nd minute. Freshman Eboni Udenze picked up her 8th goal of the season in the 66th minute on a straight-on one-timer after a feed from Cassie Lydick. Hokanson and Bowyer then teamed up again for the final goal in the 71st minute.

The Comets outshot the visitors, 28-2 and needed just one save from keeper Andrea Jones on a free kick early in the first half. UTD had 12 corner kick opportunities and did not allow one to the YellowJackets.
