Comet Women Right Back In Chase For Post-Season After Pair of Road Shutout Wins

UTD NOW IN THIRD PLACE AFTER PICKING UP THIRD STRAIGHT CONFERENCE VICTORY

SOPHOMORE EMILY HOKANSON SCORED FOUR TIMES FOR THE COMETS OVER THE WEEKEND.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SEGUIN / KERRVILLE, TX (10.09.10) - Since dropping a close decision at nationally-ranked Hardin-Simmons on Sept. 24, the UT Dallas women's soccer team has rattled off a 4-0-1 record and is right back in the chase for its ninth straight American Southwest Conference post-season berth.

Playing with confidence for the fifth straight week, UTD ran its consecutive win total to three over the weekend - shutting down both Texas Lutheran, 4-0 on Friday; then Schreiner University, 5-0 Saturday afternoon. The Comets, now 5-2-1 in ASC play, trail only HSU and UT Tyler in the standings and have outscored their opponents, 24-1, since that 2-0 loss to the Cowgirls.

The Comets got the win over TLU with a pair of goals in each half Friday. Sophomore Emily Hokanson got UTD on the board just 1:29 into the game off an assist by Leah Bowyer. Sophomore Kelsie Harsch then scored her first collegiate goal just before the half on an assist by Eboni Udenze to put UTD up 2-0 at halftime.

The Comets then doubled up their lead in the second period. Senior Kori Joyce scored with a header off a Brittany Ansel serve just three minutes into the second period to make it 3-0, and UTD was cruising. Hokanson and Bowyer then combined on another goal with 10 minutes left for the Comets' final score.

UTD held an 18-10 advantage in shots, putting eight on net.

UTD 5, SCHREINER 0 (BOX SCORE)


Emily Hokanson and Leah Bowyer continued their quest to become UTD's "dynamic duo" on Saturday against the Mountaineers. Hokanson finished off a four-goal weekend with two goals and an assist in the rout, and Bowyer had a goal to go along with her third assist of the weekend.

The Comets put this one away in a six-minute span that started about 18 minutes into the game. Bowyer socred the game-winner on a header off a Bailey Hoh serve. Just three minutes later, Bowyer set up Hokanson to make it 2-0, and Eboni Udenze got on the board three minutes after that on an assist from Katie Makanani to put UTD well on its way.

scored off a Brittany Ansel corner kick in the 37th minute and UTD had a 4-0 advantage at the half, outshooting the Mountaineers, 19-3 in the first 45 minutes). After intermission, Coach John Antonisse to substitute freely and UTD got its fifth goal when Bowyer scored on a Hokanson assist in the 78th minutes.
