TYLER, TX (10.04.11) - The UT Dallas men's and women's golf teams returned to action Monday and Tuesday as the two golf squads competed at the UT-Tyler Fall Invitational. The Comet men finished in 12th place while the UTD women placed fifth. Both tournaments were two-day, 36-hole events.
The men's squad battled a deep 14-team field and were just a handful of shots away of finishing in the top half. UTD shot 640 (323-317) for the two-day event.
Joey Kron was the Comets' top finisher, placing 23rd after cading a two-day total of 154 (79-75) while
Keaton Kelley was just two shots behind in 27th place (78-78).
Johnny Begzos finished in 44th place at 161 (77-84),
Dylan Carroll was 64th at 170 (90-80) and
Zach Norton was 67th at 175 (89-86).
Host Texas-Tyler picked up the team title, shooting a two-day total of 585 (288-297), while Emory finished second at 601 (302-299).
On the women's side, Texas-Tyler also claimed the team title with a two-day total of 662 (337-325). The Comets finished fifth out of the five teams involved and shot an 872 (440-432).
Katie Walser was UTD's top shooter, carding a two-day total of 191 (102-89) for 23rd place.
Alejandra Serrate was in 26th place at 213 (108-105), Heather Zoukarir was 27th at 234 (119-115), Taylor Neumann was 28th at 234 (119-115) and
Brittany Lightfoot was 29th at 254 (116-138).
The Comet women return to the course Oct. 17-18 at the Schreiner Lady Classic at the Scott Schreiner Golf Club in Kerrville. The UTD men next compete in the Northwood Fall Shootout, Oct. 24-25 at Tangle Ridge Golf Club in Grand Prairie.
