Comets Open ASC Women's Tournament With Concordia (TX) Rematch

ABILENE, TX (10.28.12) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team will be returning to the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament for the 11th straight season and advanced to the title game seven times. So, iit really doesn't matter to the Comets where they are seeded as they return once again in 2012.

UTD will open the 2012 ASC Championship Tournament, hosted for the 10th straight year by regular season champion Hardin-Simmons University, with a quarterfinal match against Concordia-Texas at 11 am Thursday at the HSU Soccer Complex.

Coverage of all tournament games will be offered free through Live Stats and Live Video (Link information to come.)

The Comets (10-4-2), seeded No. 5, will be facing a fourth-seeded Concordia (9-5-3) team they battled to a 0-0 double-overtime tie in the regular season, playing on a muddy Austin-area high school field. UTD outshot the Tornados, 16-10, in that matchup back on Oct. 13, but neither team was able to score.

With a quarterfinal win, UTD would advance to an 11 am semifinal match on Friday against the host Cowgirls (15-0-1), who finished the season 12-0 against ASC competition and are ranked No. 3 nationally by the National Soccer Coaches Association.

The other Thursday quarterfinal match will feature third-seeded Mississippi College (13-3-2) against sixth-seeded East Texas Baptist (8-6-1) at 2 pm. The winner will face No. 2 seed UT Tyler (14-4) in the semifinals at 2 pm Friday. The two semifinal winners will get a day of rest before meeting in the championship game at 1 pm Sunday afternoon.

The ASC tournament winner earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship.
 
NOTES: Admission: $5 for adults, $3 for students/children/seniors each day. Under age 6 will be admitted for no charge. No complimentary admission passes will be accepted . . . Official tournament long-sleeved t-shirts are $15, while official tournament programs will be $2. . . The hosting rights of the ASC women's soccer tournament are awarded each year to the regular season top seed. . . . Hardin-Simmons is ranked No. 3 in the country by both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and D3soccer.com. . . .Hardin-Simmons has served as host for the ASC women's soccer tournament 12 different times (1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012). . . . Returning all-tournament selections from last year are sophomore defender Julianne Kucera, junior forward Taylor Thigpen and junior midfielder Vivian Wells of Hardin-Simmons; and senior forward/midfielder Emily Hokanson of Texas-Dallas. Wells was the most valuable player. Senior forward/midfielder Katie Kuykendall of Hardin-Simmons was the MVP in 2010. . . .
