KERRVILLE, TX (02.28.12) - The UT Dallas men's golf team opened the spring season this week with an eighth-place finish at the Schreiner Spring Shootout, held at the Comanche Trace Country Club.
Freshman
Johnny Begzos paced the Comets with a 19th place finish, carding a two-day total of 159 (78-81).
Corey Steinmann finished in 27th place two shots behind Begzos at 161 (81-80) while
Mark Kreml was 35th at 165 (84-80) and Keaton Kelly was 42nd at 168 (83-85).
Chase Curtis was forced to withdraw from the Monday's opening round due to injury, but carded a 76 in Tuesday's second round.
Trinity claimed the team title, finishing with team aggregate of 614 (302-312) with Texas-Tyler second one shot behind at 615 (307-308). Texas Lutheran was third at 622 (311-311). The Comets finished with a team total of 643 (326-317).
The Comets return to action next week when they travel to Dehli, La., at the Mississippi College Spring Invitational. The 36-hole, two-day event will be played at Black Bear Golf Course.
