LUFKIN, TX (04.17.12) - The UT Dallas men's golf team sat in 4th place after Monday's opening two rounds, but a third-round 342 pushed the Comets back to the 5th place to close the 2012 American Southwest Conference Men's Golf Championships. This year's event was held at the Crown Colony Country Club.

UTD carded an opening round of 322 but reponded by shooting a 310 in Monday's second round to move into 4th place after 36 holes. The Comets had two golfers among the top 10 after the first two rounds with sophomore
Corey Steinmann in 6th and senior
Mark Kreml in 10th, but no UTD player broke 80 in Tuesday's final round.
Steinmann earned second team All-ASC honors, placing 9th at 237 (77-77-83). Kreml finished in a tie for 18th at 244 (83-73-88) just head of teammate
Johnny Begzos in 21st at 245 (80-80-85).
Dylan Carroll was 37th at 252 (82-84-86) and
Joey Kron wsa 45th at 260 (87-80-93).
Texas-Tyler picked up the team title with a three-round, 54-hole aggregate total of 898 (300-295-303), earning the largest margin of victory (46 strokes) in the history of the tournament. LeTourneau finished second at 944 (312-318-314) and Mary Hardin-Baylor was third at 950 (316-308-326). Schreiner passed UTD on the final day, carding a three-round total of 966 (318-319-329) for fourth place while the Comets finished at 974 (322-310-342).
UTT finished with the top three individual finishers in the event with Jacob Walsh claiming medalist honors for the second straight year with a 219 (71-75-73).
