After a scoreless opening half that saw the two teams combined for just 11 shots, the Cowgirls finally broke open the scoreless tie as tournament MVP Caitlin Cramer headed a scoring tally on a Taylor Thigpen corner kick from the left side with 14:54 left on the clock. Cramer was unchecked in the six-yard box and headed the ball past a diving Best.
The Comets scrambled in the final minutes to rally for an equalizer, but HSU was able to kill the clock with several trips to the corner to stall. HSU's Julianne Kucera, who was also named to the All-Tournament Team, lead the Cowgirls with four shots, two on goal, while Cramer finished with three shots, two on goal. HSU teammates Katie Haltiwagner and Kristen Pack were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
Sarah Borg led the Comets with two shots, one on goal, while seven other UTD players recorded a shot.
Jamie Rheman had the Comets' remaining shot on goal. HSU goalkeeper Lexi Stinson made two saves in the shutout win.
