UTD Women Show Spark, But Still Looking For First Win

GOALKEEPER MACAIRE AMENT STOPPED CAL LUTHERAN WITH FOUR SAVES.
Box Score RICHARDSON, Texas (09.07.13) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team dropped its fourth straight game to open the 2013 season - falling 3-0 to Cal Lutheran - Sunday night, but gave the powerhouse Regals all they could handle.

UTD (0-4-0) gave up three goals in a 7:20 span early in the first half, but played CLU (2-2-0) even the rest of the night and actually out-shot the Regals, 17-13.

The game was the fourth straight to open the season against unusually strong competition for UTD, but the Comets didn't back down against CLU, which lost to nationally-ranked Hardin-Simmons, 4-1, Friday night. UTD has never lost four straight games to open a season.

Goalkeeper Macaire Ament came off the bench to stop the bleeding after the Regals broke loose for three consecutive scoring plays, starting with a pair of Bianca Deardorff goals on feeds from Kristina Hulse at 13:35 and 16:06. When Hulse added a third goal on a Alli Calabrese assist at 20:55, Ament entered the game and stopped four scoring shots the rest of the way, including a pair of point-blank stops in the second half.

The Comets also had a team save with a blocked shot in the second half.

Meanwhile, the Comet offense launched 17 shots, including four on goal in the first half. After halftime, though, a strong wind began working against the UTD attack and the Comets were held to just one shot on goal after halftime.

UTD put five shots on goal (compared to seven from CLU), including shots from freshman Emily Luth and Jenna Gill. Upperclassmen Carli Beckett, Juli Saba and Jeri Mills also each had a shot on goal.

The Comets will attempt to break their skid with their first road games of the year next weekend. UTD travels to Georgetown to face Southwestern Friday, followed by a match at Trinity University in San Antonio Sunday.
