Kanute Drugan has a re-energized UT Dallas women's soccer team in a position for postseason success as the Comets open the American Southwest Conference Tournament Thursday against Concordia Texas at 11 a.m. in Abilene.
FULL ASC FIELD RELEASEPRINTABLE BRACKETTOURNAMENT HISTORYThe Comets wrapped up the regular season wish a 12-4-1 overall record, recording their fifth straight season with double-digit victories. UTD is seeded No. 4 in the event is making its 13th consecutive and 15th overall appearance in the ASC Tournament and will be looking to add to its two league titles (2002, 2004). The Comets have advanced to the ASC semifinals each of the past 12 seasons with nine trips to the title match. In 15 previous trips to the ASC Tournament, the Comets are 10-11-4.
UT Dallas recently faced Concordia Texas on Oct. 31 and earned 2-1 overtime win over the Tornados in Austin. With a win over fifth-seeded CTX, the Comets would advance to the tournament semifinals and face top-seed and host Hardin-Simmons at 11 a.m. Saturday. The tournament title game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday. All games will be played at the HSU Soccer Complex on the campus of Hardin-Simmons.
UTD's is sparked by one of the top goal scorers in the ASC this season in forward
Carli Beckett, one of eight seniors for the Comets. Beckett enters the postseason with 12 goals, ranking her second in the conference, while she is tied for the ASC lead with 30 points. Fellow senior
Alissa Burch is second on the team with seven goals while senior
Sarah Borg and sophomore
Megan Mugavero each have five tallies. Beckett also leads the team with six assists.
In goal, junior
Macaire Ament is one of top keepers in the ASC statistically. Ament boasts a 10-4-1 record this fall and ranks third in the league with a 0.87 goals against average and sixth in the ASC with six shutouts. As a team, the Comets rank third overall with an 0.80 team goals against average with eight total shutouts, also third-best in the ASC.
Drugan recently recorded his 250th career victory as he is now in his 18th year as a collegiate coach and is now 251-110-17 all-time.
Single-day admission for the ASC Tournament is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Children under six will be admitted free of change.
