Terry Butterfield has been named the South District Coach of the Year, announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Tuesday morning.
Butterfield guided UTD to its best record in school history this past season as the Comets made a return trip to the NCAA Division IIII "Sweet 16". Butterfield's squad posted a 27-4 overall mark and won the American Southwest Conference regular-season and postseason titles. He was named the ASC Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career.
In 14 seasons with the program, Butterfield is now 240-142 and has led UTD to three ASC postseason titles (2005, 2009, 2014). He has led the Comets to five NCAA D-III Tournament appearances (2005, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014), including three trips to the "Sweet 16" and one trip to the "Elite Eight". In 25 seasons as a collegiate head coach, Butterfield is 399-267.
