Box Score 3 RICHARDSON, TX (04.12.14) - The UT Dallas softball team is now just one win shy of a second straight trip to the American Southwest Conference tournament after sweeping LeTourneau in a three-game home series.
The Comets (now 17-17, 10-17 ASC) opened the weekend with a 1-0 win before exploding for 19 runs in Saturday's sweep of the LETU. UTD opened Saturday with a 9-1, five-inning win over the YellowJackets before holding off LETU (now 15-19, 9-18 ASC), 10-9, in the series finale. The Comets climb into seventh place in the ASC standings with six games left to play.
UTD returns to action next week with a three-game series at Concordia Texas. The two teams will play a single game at 6 p.m. Thursday before a 12 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
GAME 1 - UTD 1, LETU 0 (FRIDAY) and an RBI groundout by McHugh. After giving up a run in the top of the 5th, the Comets finished the game with a bases-loaded walk by Aragones followed by a game-ending single by McHugh.
McHugh ended the game 3-for-4 with four RBI and two run scored while
as she continued her torrid weekend. McHugh later scored in the inning with heads up base running, tagging and scoring on a foul pop up by
Aly Hudec, giving UTD a 3-1 lead. However, the YellowJackets knotted the game, 3-3, with a pair of runs in the top of the 2nd.
In the bottom of the 3rd, McHugh gave the Comets back the lead with an RBI double, scoring Sartor. Hudec then knocked in both
Taylor Nabors and McHugh with a single to center, lifting UTD to a 6-3 advantage. Later in the frame,
Jessica Ramos used a pinch-hit bases-clearing double to left to give the Comets a six-run cushion.
The YellowJackets got three runs back in the 4th on a pair of UTD errors and added a solo home run by Jourdan Glover in the 6th, her second of the game, to draw within two runs, 9-7. The Comets added an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th on a two-out single by Hudec, scoring Sartor. In the 7th, the YellowJackets plated a pair of runs thanks to a Comet error followed by a double by Whitney Judd down the left field line. But, after an intentional walk issued to Glover, Davison induced a pop up by Courtney Matulis to end the game.
Davison (3-8) earned her second win of the weekend after a 5.2-inning relief appearance of Comet starter
Jessie Richardson. Richardson recorded one out in the 2nd before her early exit, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks.Davison allowed three earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts. Sartor was 3-for-4 with three runs scored while McHugh ended the game 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Nabors was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
