Box Score 3 RICHARDSON, TX (04.26-14) - The UT Dallas softball team extended its winning streak to a school-record nine games over the weekend with a three-game home sweep of Ozarks to close out the regular season.
The Comets (now 23-17, 16-17 ASC) enter next week's American Southwest Conference Tournament as the No. 6 seed after picking up three five-inning, run-rule victories over the Eagles. UTD grabbed matching 8-0 wins in a Friday doubleheader before completing the sweep with a 9-1 win on Saturday in the series finale. Ozarks dropped to 3-37 overall and 2-31 with the three losses.
UTD will open play in the ASC Tournament Wednesday night against third-seeded Mary Hardin-Baylor. The game is slated for 7 p.m. on the campus of Texas-Tyler, the regular-season league champion.
GAME 1 - UTD 8, Ozarks 0 (5 inn.) - FRIDAYThe Comets took a 7-0 lead after three frame and completed the run-rule victory in the series opener with Ozarks with a two-out, bases-loaded infield single by
. The Comets final run of the frame came on a two-out, bases-loaded error on a ground ball by Bratcher, allowing Edwards to score from third. UTD added a pair of runs in the 4th on RBI hits by Thomas and Aragones and ended the game with a lead-off solo homer by Edwards in the 5th, her first of the season.
Jessie Richardson (5-4) earned the win, giving up three hits with a walk and three strikeouts in 4.0 innings in the circle.
Lauren McLeod tossed a hitless fifth, giving up a walk and striking out one. Aragones was 2-for-3 with three RBI while Edwards was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
GAME 3 - UTD 9, Ozarks 1 (5 inn.) - SATURDAYThe Comets scored in every inning, including three tallies in the bottom of the 5th, to complete the three-game sweep of Ozarks with a 9-1 win.
McLeod (9-4) became the third UTD pitcher to collect a win on the weekend, giving up just three hits with six strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work. McLeod struggled with control early, walking three straight batters with one out in the 1st inning and then hitting Ozarks' batter Shawnee Sorensen to give the Eagles their only run of the weekend. Davison tossed a scoreless 5th, giving up one hit.
UTD bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the frame, scoring a run on one of two Ozarks errors in the inning and adding an RBI single by McHugh. The Comets tacked on a run each in the 2nd and 3rd before finishing the contest with five runs over the final two frames. In the 2nd, UTD extended its lead to 3-1 with an RBI single by Sartor and then added a
Jessica Ramos RBI single in the 3rd to grab a 4-1 cushion. In the 4th, the Comets again scored a run on an Ozarks error and add another McHugh RBI single to take a 6-1 lead.
Kendall Moore and Bratcher each had RBI hits in the 5th before the game ended on Ozarks' fifth error of the contest, allowing
Morgan Anderson to score on an Ervin one-out ground ball to second base.
McHugh was 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while Sartor finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Bratcher and Anderson each finished with two hits. The win game UTD nine straight victories, snapping a record a decade old. The Comets won eight straight games during the 2004 season.
