SARAH BORG SCORED TWICE
Senior Carli Beckett scored her first career hat trick with the Comets and added an assist while classmate Sarah Borg pitched in two goals and assisted on another.

The Comets (1-0) jumped on top of the Lady Panthers with two quick goals in the first 1:54 of the game, and took the will out of the opposition with a third goal early in the second half.

"We played a good team today and overwhelmed them," Drugan said in summarizing his debut with the Comets. "Those two quick goals really stunned them. And, then after  [Principia] came out strong to start the second half, I think Beckett's second goal (just 3:44 into the half) really took the wind out of them."

The combination of Beckett and Borg went to work early against the Lady Panthers (0-1), who were out-shot 34-3 in the match. Transfer midfielder Samantha Huston played the ball through to Beckett for shot that found the bottom left corner of the net just 1:34 into the game. Then, before Principia knew what had hit them, Beckett got the ball to Borg, who found the bottom right corner just :20 later, giving UTD an early 2-0 lead they took to intermission.

The second half started much the same way with Beckett scoring off a Borg cross at the 48:44 mark. Beckett then picked up the hat trick with her third goal off a header at 64:19. Megan Mugavero assisted on the play, then picked up another point by feeding Borg on her second goal with just under seven minutes left in the match.

Junior goal keeper Macaire Ament was called on to make just two saves on the afternoon in picking up her first win.

UTD is back in action Saturday when they face Covenant at noon, also at the Rhodes University field.
