Box Score RICHARDSON, TX (09.14.14) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team battled with one of the top teams in NCAA Division III, but fell short against No. 2-ranked Trinity, 2-1, in overtime as the Comets suffered their first loss of the season.
The Comets (now 4-1) managed just six shots in the near 93-minute contest and had just two shots on goal for the contest. Senior
Carli Beckett scored UTD's lone goal, that coming with 22 minutes left in regulation after the Comets gave up the game's first goal to Trinity early in the second half. Beckett's tally, a long-distance bullet that found the upper half of the net over the outstretched arms of Trinity keeper Lauren Goldberg, was her American Southwest Conference-leading sixth of the season and came on her only shot of the game.
After a scoreless opening half, Trinity (now 4-0-1) opened the scoring in the 50th minute when Tiger Kelsey Falcone drilled a shot past a diving
Macaire Ament from 10 yards, after an entry pass from teammate Yasmeen Farra. Beckett's goal came nearly 20 minutes later as she nailed a shot from 25 yards out past TU goalkeeper Lauren Goldberg, thanks to a pass from
Sofia Quezada. Just 2:46 minutes into the extra period, Trinity's Meredith Licata took a pass from teammate Emily Jorgens and hit a shot over Ament's head to end the game.
Trinity finished the afternoon with 24 shots, nine of which were on goal, with Faclone leading the way with six shots and Hannah Kuhl had four shots.
Andrea Guevara led UTD with three shots while
Samantha Huston added two shots. Ament made a season-high seven saves for the Comets.
The Comets hit the road next weekend for a classic hosted by Hardin-Simmons in Abilene. UTD will face Rhodes College at 3 p.m. Saturday and Hendrix College at 3 p.m. Sunday.
