Comet Women Keep Scoring, Hold Off Hendrix, 4-1

SENIOR SARAH BORG HAD EIGHT SHOTS AGAINST HENDRIX.
Box Score RICHARDSON, TX (09.21.14) - In a game that was originally scheduled to be played in Abilene, the UT Dallas women's soccer team rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to earn a 4-1 win at home over Hendrix College in non-conference play.

Off to their best start to a season in program history, the Comets (now 6-1) out-shot Hendrix, 34-7, and finished the afternoon with 21 shots on goal. UTD took seven corner kicks, compared to just one by the Warriors.

The visiting Warriors (now 5-4) scored in the second minute of the game off a free kick from about 30 yards out as Vanessa Franco's shot went just over the head of UTD keeper Macaire Ament. It took nearly 19 minutes for the Comets to counter, but they tallied a pair of goals before the break and then added two more goals in the second half to earn their second straight win.

Carli Beckett scored the equalizer in the 21st minute as she took a deep cross from the right side from teammate Sarah Borg and cleared Hendrix keeper Jordan Rausch. The tally was Beckett's team-leading seventh goal of the season. The Comets took a 2-1 lead in the 36th minute on an unassisted goal by Megan Mugavero, her third of the season, as she took a rebound of her own shot and scooted it past Rausch. In the second half, Andrea Guevara netted her first goal of the year as she took a shot pass from teammate Taylor Belcher in front of the Hendrix net and beat Warrior backup keeper Michaela Seltzer. UTD's final goal came in the 68th minute on a header by Sarah Borg off a Alissa Burch corner kick. The goal was Borg's third of the season.

Ament played just over 71 minutes in goal for the Comets, giving up one goal with no saves. Kristi Istre finished the game with two saves. Borg led UTD with eight shots, three on goal, while Eliza Carey had five shots and Beckett added four shots.

The Comets return to the field Saturday, Sept. 27, for the start of American Southwest Conference play against Ozarks. Game time is 2 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field.
