ABILENE, TX (10.27.18) - The UT Dallas men's cross country team is American Southwest Conference champions for the first time program history as the Comets improved on back-to-back runner up finishes at the 2018 event, hosted by McMurry University.
COMPLETE RESULTS
After finishing second in both 2016 and 2017, the Comet men became the 12th (of 13) UTD programs to claim ASC hardware with Saturday's close battle with Hardin-Simmons. The Comets completed the race with 50 points, four ahead of second-place HSU for the title. East Texas Baptist was a distant third place with 99 points while Ozarks was fourth at 101 points and LeTourneau fifth at 105 points.
Freshman
Cannon Leavitt and sophomore
Andres Uriegas both earned first team All-ASC honors as the duo finished third and fifth, respectively. Leavitt completed the eight-kilometer course with a time of 27:14 while Uriegas came in at 27:47.
Trent Sakakini was the Comets' next finisher at 16th place at 28:56 while
Alireza Nourani was 18th at 29:05, giving both UTD runners second team All-ASC recognition.
Christian Kondor finished in 21st place at 29:19,
Chris Reyna was 22nd at 29:20,
John Gabriel 24th at 29:26 and
Blake Stroud 27th at 29:46, placing eight UTD runners among the top 30 finishers.
Completing the team standings were host McMurry in sixth at 145, Concordia Texas seventh at 178, Belhaven eighth at 233, Mary Hardin-Baylor ninth at 274, Sul Ross State 10th at 293 and Louisiana College 11th at 341.
The Comets will return to action Saturday, Nov. 10, when they compete in the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championships, held in Mount Berry, Ga.
