Box Score JACKSON, MS (01.24.19) - The No. 23-ranked UT Dallas women's basketball team set a season low for points allowed Thursday night as the Comets rolled to a 74-36 road win over Belhaven in American Southwest Conference East Division.
The Comets improved to 14-4 overall after their fifth straight victory and are now tied atop the ASC East standings at 8-2 with seven games left the regular season. UTD will close its four-game road trip Saturday afternoon as the Comets close the first half of divisional play at Louisiana College. Tip-off is 1 p.m. in Pineville, La.
UTD limited the host Blazers to just three points in the second period en route to a 36-16 halftime lead as the Comets collected their eight win by at least a 25-point margin. The Comet defense held BU to just 25.6 percent accuracy on the night while the Blazers connected on just 1-of-9 three-pointers. UTD created 18 turnovers and out-rebounded the Blazers, 46-32. The Blazers' 36 points were not only the fewest allowed by UTD this season, but also the lowest scored in ASC play this year.
Victoria Pena led the Comets with 13 points and a game-best five assists while
Katie Gunther added 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds for her first collegiate 'double-double'.
Raenett Hughes rounded out the Comets in double figures with 11 points as UTD again relied on balanced scoring for a lop-sided victory.
The Comets closed the win shooting 39.7 percent (27-of-6) as a team, making 9-of-27 three-pointers (33.3%), and hit 11-of-14 (78.6%) from the free-throw line.
