RICHARDSON, TX (09.14.19) - The UT Dallas men's and women's cross country teams made history Saturday morning as they hosted the first-ever home meet in program history. The Comets entertained teams from around the state in the inaugural UT Dallas Cross Country Invitational, held at the Practice Tee near the UTD campus.

The Comet men placed second among the field of sevens teams while the UTD women finished third.
Sophomore
Trent Sakakini paced the UTD men's squad with a sixth place finish overall, completing the five-kilometer race in a time of 16:27. Freshman teammate
Griffin Davis gave the Comets a pair of top-ten finishers as he placed eighth with a time of 16:39.Â
Joseph Kirby finished just outside the top ten in 11th place at 16:55 while
Chris Reyna placed 17th at 17:12.
Andres Uriegas was 21st at 17:33,
John Gabriel 22nd at 17:35 and
Lucas Klenovich 26th at 17:35.
Austin College captured the men's title with 56 points while the Comets finished with 63 points. Hardin-Simmons was a close third with 67 points, Southwest Assemblies of God was fourth at 84, North Central Texas College fifth at 92, University of Dallas sixth at 160 points and Mary Hardin-Baylor seventh with 187 points. Paul Quinn had four runners complete the race.
SAGU's Zackery Hammond won the men's race with a time of 15:58.
For the women, freshman
Elizabeth Chimitt was the Comets' top finisher, placing ninth in the five-kilometer meet with a time of 21:14. Senior
Brittany Parga was 13th at 21:55 and senior
Sara Hartke was 15th at 22:00.
Rachel Kahler placed 19th with a time of 22:15,
Katherine Merola 25th at 22:47 and
Gina Fossati 27th at 22:58.
HSU captured the women's team title with an impressive 36 points with UMHB second with 70 points and UTD with 74 points. U. Dallas finished fourth with 94 points, NCTC fifth with 109 points, SAGU sixth with 144 points and Dallas Christian sixth with 219 points. Austin College had four runners complete the race.
U. Dallas' Anna Wilgenbusch won the women's race by nearly a minute as she completed the course in a tim eof 18:54.
The Comet men and women will return to action Saturday, Oct. 5, when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Chile Pepper Festival hosted by the University of Arkansas.
