RICHARDSON, TX (10.28.21) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team has been projected to finish third in the ASC in the 2021-22 season, according to the league's preseason poll released Thursday afternoon.

The Comets posted a 9-5 overall record last season, finishing with a 7-4 league mark and a third place finish in the ASC's East Division. For the 2021-22 season, the ASC will move to a single division format with all 11 teams playing a double round-robin schedule.Â
Mary Hardin-Baylor was tabbed the preseason favorite in the league this season with 237 points and 19-of-22 first-place votes in the balloting of the conference's head coaches and sports information directors. Hardin-Simmons was second with 211 points and two top votes with the Comets in third at 182 points and the final first-place vote.
East Texas Baptist was fourth in the voting with 162 points, defending league champion Ozarks was fifth at 159, LeTourneau sixth at 135, Concordia Texas seventh at 113, Sul Ross State eighth at 111, McMurry ninth at 77, Belhaven 10th at 56 and Howard Payne 11th at 24.
In addition, three Comets were named to the ASC's Men's Basketball Preseason Watch List. Sophomore guard
Hunter Stevens and freshman forward
Kameron Pruitt were joined by junior transfer
Donovan Souter among the 32 players to watch around the league this season.
The Comets open the season on Tuesday, Nov. 9, with a 5 p.m. road game at Schreiner in Kerrville. The squad will then host Belhaven at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, in the Comets' home and ASC opener at the UTD Activity Center.
