MARSHALL, Texas -  The UT Dallas men's and women's cross country teams will compete for the 2022 American Southwest Conference Championship Saturday at East Texas Baptist University.

The women will start the morning with a 6K race at 9 a.m., followed by the men's 8K at 10 a.m.

The Comet women have placed in the top three of the ASC Championship each of the past nine seasons, including conference titles in 2016 and 2017. They have competed in four meets this fall and won the University of Dallas XC Invitational. Sophomore Rebeca Betanzo has been UTD's top finisher in three of the meets with sophomore Sage Herrera having the best time in the latest race. Herrera finished third at last season's meet and was named the ASC Freshman of the Year.

On the men's side, the Comets have won three of the last four titles and was the runner-up in 2021. UTD has finished ahead of all five ASC teams they have competed against this season. Junior Graeme Maclean has been the team's top finisher three times with junior Devan Bailey taking the top time at the Chile Pepper XC Festival. Bailey, Maclean and graduate student Trent Sakakini rank eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively, in the ASC in 8K races.

Sakakini is a four-time All-ASC honoree and was the runner-up in 2020-21 and fourth place finisher in 2021. Maclean missed the 2021 season but finished fifth at conference the year before to earn ASC Freshman of the Year. Senior Griffin Davis earned First Team honors last year with a fifth-place finish. Bailey and sophomore Ethan Conville made the Second Team a year ago.
