PLANO, TX (03.20.22) - For the second straight spring, the UT Dallas men's golf team claimed the team title of its home event as the Comets roared past the field on Sunday for the championship of the 2022 Texas Cup, played at The Course at Watters Creek.

The Comets posted one of the best rounds in program history on Sunday as they finished the 36-hole event with a team total of 580. UTD sat in fourth place after Saturday's opening round at 293 and then carded a one-under 287, matching the fourth-lowest round in school history, on Sunday propel to the top spot on the leader board. The Comets best runner-up and No. 15-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor (582) by two shots while first-round leader No. 13-ranked Willamette (583) finished third. Texas Lutheran (584) was a close fourth and Trinity (592) was fifth.
UTD's
Ryan Kropp finished in second place individually with a 36-hole total of 140. Sitting in fourth as well after Saturday's opening-round 71, Kropp carded a three-under 69 on Sunday to jump to second place and earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Teammate
Cade Eldridge was also honored on the All-Tournament Team with a 36-hole total of 143 (74-69).
Hudson Hicks tied for 22nd at 149 (74-75),
Daniel Shofner tied for 33rd at 151 (74-77) and
Davis Archer tied for 45th at 153 (79-74). Playing as an individual,
Jarrett Grinnel tied for 16th at 148 (75-73). There were 99 golfers in the field.
Willamette's Paxton Jones earned medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 138 (69-69) while TLU's Chase Maus tied Kropp for second place at 140. UMHB's William Sammons and Trinity's Jacob Mason tied for fourth at 142 to wrap up the All-Tournament Team.
The Comets return to action later this week as they host Willimatte and George Fox in the Comet Spring Break Tri-Match, Wednesday and Thursday also at Watters Creek.
