RICHARDSON, TX (04.23.22) - The No. 21-ranked UT Dallas women's golf team will begin its defense of its league title Sunday morning as the Comets open the 2022 ASC Championships, played at Tempest Golf Club in Gladewater.

The eight-team, 54-hole tournament officially begins at 8 a.m. Sunday with the Comets set to tee off at 9:12Â a.m. The event will span three days with the teams played 18 holes each day. The tournament champion will receive the ASC's automatic berth into the NCAA D-III National Championships.

Karen Alvarez, a five-time ASC Golfer of the Week this season, ranks No. 44 in NCAA D-III, boasting a scoring average of 76.07 through 15 rounds this year. She claimed three tournament titles this year, including the Crusader Invitational last October, hosted by league foe and No. 20-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Sofia Trevino is second on the squad this season with a 79.19 scoring average through 16 rounds, ranking No. 67 in NCAA D-III.Â
Lindy Patterson enters the postseason with an 80.80 scoring average through 10 rounds,
Maddy Vilven at 81.31 through 16 rounds and
Danielle Dimafelix at 86.11 through nine rounds.
Serving as the No. 2 seed in the tournament, the Comets are paired with UMHB and UC Santa Cruz in Sunday's opening round. Hardin-Simmons and Howard Payne will open the tournament at 8 a.m. while East Texas Baptist, Concordia Texas and LeTourneau will tee off at 8:27.
The Comets claimed their first-ever ASC title in 2021, placing three golfers on the All-Tournament Team. There was no tournament in 2020 due to health and safety concerns and the Comets finished in third place in 2019.
