RICHARDSON, TX (05.04.22) - The UT Dallas softball team is making its return to the postseason this weekend after qualifying as the No. 6 seed in the 2022 ASC Softball Championship Tournament, hosted by Belhaven at University Field on the campus of Delta State in Cleveland, Miss.
ASC TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
The Comets posted a 23-17 overall record this spring and earned a spot in the postseason for the first time since 2019 with a 15-15 ASC mark. UTD will open the event at 10 a.m. Thursday with an opening-round elimination game against seventh-seeded McMurry. With a first-round win, the Comets would play another elimination game at 4 p.m. Thursday against third-seeded and No. 9-ranked nationally Mary Hardin-Baylor for a spot in the four-team, double-elimination tournament starting Friday.
UTD enters the tournament ranked sixth in the ASC in both team batting average (.293) and team earned run average (3.37). The Comets are fourth in the league in home runs (24) and runs scored (196) this spring.
Megan Todd leads the Comets with a .395 batting average along with eight home runs and 38 RBI, both teams highs. She has added eight doubles and ranks third on the squad with 23 runs scored.
Nicole Peters is second on the squad with a .367 average while
Ashley Ambrosy is hitting .339 with a team-best 20 stolen bases.Â
Emilie Hoelscher boasts a team-best 2.95 ERA with an 8-7 record with 86 strikeouts in 102.0 innings pitched.
Devyn Yanello has a 3.09 ERA with an 8-3 mark, striking out 24 batters in 86.0 innings of work.
The Comets are making their 10th all-time appearance in the ASC Tournament, winning the program's lone league title in 2017.
Daily tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students with valid ID. Children under 10 are admitted free of charge. Tournament passes are also available for $30. Live video and stats will be provide for all games.
