RICHARDSON, Texas - UT Dallas freshman
Tyler Durden was named the American Southwest Conference Men's Golfer of the Week after his win at the UMHB Fall Invitational in Temple, Texas on Tuesday.
Durden, from Austin, Texas, won a three-player, two-hole playoff to claim medalist honors. He tied for the lead with a 67-70=137 (-3) with Kyle Anderson of Howard Payne and Kip Childress of East Texas Baptist, which was tied for the second-lowest 36-hole score in program history. On the first playoff hole, all three shot even on the par 5 hole. Durden then sank a 10-foot birdie putt on the par four second playoff hole to take the individual title.
He made 25 pars for the tournament and recorded the third-lowest score in UTD history in the first round, helping the #25 Comets to a second place team finish.
Durden and UT Dallas will be back on the course on October 3 at the Tempest Intercollegiate in Gladewater, Texas.
