MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. - The #10 UT Dallas men's golf team finished in a tie for eighth at the prestigious Golfweek October Classic at Raven Golf Club Tuesday.
Graduate student
Parker McCurdy and senior
Daniel Shofner also finished in the top 10 in the 25-team tournament.
Playing against the best teams in the nation, the Comets shot a 292-295-286=873 and for +21 par, tying with #8 Oglethorpe. With a team score of -9, #2 Methodist ran away with the title. They were followed by #6 Illinois Wesleyan (+8), #16 Lynchburg (+9), #1 Emory (+11) and #5 Carnegie Mellon (+17) in the top five.
McCurdy finished the tournament in sixth place with -2 69-71-71=211. Shofner climbed 20 spots on the final day into ninth place, coming up with a 74-72-68=214 (+1).
Sophomore
Tyler Durden tied for 44th at 75-77-69=221 (+8).
Andrew Chow tied for 93rd with a +16 (76-75-78=229) to round out the scoring.Â
McCurdy sank 12 birdies and an eagle, while Shofner made 11 birdies and an eagle. Durden led the Comets with 36 pars.
UTD will play in its final fall event at the DIII National Preview in Boulder City, Nev. beginning October 28.
