Christopher Castro and junior
Rebeca Betanzo each broke a school record at the DBU Old Glory Gallop at Lynn Creek Park Saturday.
Castro led the Comet men to 13th place out of 28 schools with a new 8K record of 25:19.7, finishing 36th overall. His mark broke the old record by 14.9 seconds set by Greame Maclean last season.
Freshman
Zach Johnson ran the course in 26:00.7, placing 79th and fellow freshman
Frank Douglas was 84th in 26:04.3.
Devan Bailey came in 96th in 26:14.5 and
Jayden Chambless rounded out the scoring in 98th at 26:15.9. Johnson had the seventh fastest 8K mark in program history and Douglas was eighth.
The women finished 16th out of 33rd, led by Betanzo's 18:35.5 time on the 5K route, finishing 25th. She broke Lindsey Rayborn's 2017 record by 16.9 seconds.
Junior
Sage Herrera was 74th in 19:30.1 and freshman
Emily Skrabanek took 126th in 20:22.5. Freshman
Maiyah Phoummarath recorded a time of 20:29.6 for a 135th finish and senior
Jocelyn Heckenkamp was 156th in 20:54.2
The Comets had 23 of 25 runners record their personal best times on Saturday.
