ABILENE, Texas - The Comets' first day of the Wes Kittley Invitational was highlighted by three school records by the UT Dallas women's track & field team.
Freshman
Chisom Mbah opened the day at Abilene Christian's Elmer Gray Stadium by breaking the discus record with a throw of 28.57 meters (93 ft.-8 in.). She placed 18th and broke the old mark by 3 ft.-3 in.
Sage Herrera followed in the first section of the 1,500 meter run with new record of 5:10.08, beating her old time by nearly three seconds. She finished 18th in the event.
Rebeca Betanzo finished 13th in 19:52.40 in the 5,000 meters, besting the two-year old mark by 25 seconds.
For the Comet men,
Graeme Maclean took a ninth in the first section of the 1,500 meters in 4:03.49 and
Trent Sakakini was 13th in 4:07.79.
Ten Comets finished the 5,000 meters led by
Devan Bailey's 13th place finish in 15:39.27 and
Jayden Chambless in 15th in 16:00.05.
Joseph Kirby was also in the top 20, taking 18th in 16:06.05.
Chambless, Kirby, John Youseff,
Gavin Thomas and
Luke Pearson all had personal bests in the 5K.
UTD will wrap up the Wes Kittley Invitational on Saturday with field events starting at 10:30 a.m. and track at 2 p.m.
