WICHITA, Kan. - Former UT Dallas men's basketball standout Dimitrius Underwood competed on a team of former Division III players called We Are D3 in the Wichita SuperRegional of The Basketball Tournament (TBT) Wednesday night.

Underwood, a guard from Mesquite, Texas, played for the Comets from 2016-21 where he was two-time All-American, a regional Player of the Year and a two-time American Southwest Conference East Division Player of the Year as well as the league's Defensive Player of the Year. He played in 97 games, averaging 17.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game to go with 33 blocks and 188 steals. Underwood recorded four triple-doubles in his career and holds the Comet record with 18 assists in a game, as well as most points, field goals and free throws made in a season. He also is the program record holder in career field goals and free throws made, rebounds per game and steals per game. Underwood is second on UTD's career list with 1,678 points, 814 rebounds and 188 steals and is fifth with 317 assists.

After graduating from UTD with a degree in Finance in 2021, Underwood played a season as a graduate student at NCAA Division I member College of Charleston in South Carolina. He led the Cougars with 6.7 rebounds per game, 115 assists and 67 steals and was third on the team with 11.5 points per contest while starting all 32 games.

We Are D3 entered the tournament as the #8 seed in the Wichita Super Regional of the TBT, now in its 10th season. They faced top-seeded Mass Street, made up of mostly University of Kansas alumni at the Charles Koch Arena Wednesday, July 19. We Are D3 held a lead much of the quarterfinal round before falling 70-67. The game was broadcast on ESPN+. We Are D3 is made up 12 athletes who all played at the NCAA Division III level.
