RICHARDSON, Texas - Caleb Young and Luke Kiser have joined the UT Dallas men's basketball staff for the 2025-26 season, head coach
Jared Fleming announced Wednesday.
Young will serve as the assistant coach after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant at Dallas Baptist University. With the Patriots, Young contributed to one of the most successful runs in program history, highlighted by a Division II Final Four appearance in 2025, a South Central Regional Championship, and a record-setting 34-win season. He played a key role in scouting, guard development, practice planning, recruiting, and analytics, helping DBU to an overall record of 59-11 during his tenure.
Before his time at DBU, Young served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, where he spent five years with the program. Starting as a student assistant coach, he was promoted to a full-time assistant position in 2021. While at HSU, he helped guide the Cowboys to five consecutive American Southwest Conference tournament appearances, including a runner-up finish in 2023. He was named the 2021 TABC Small College Student Assistant of the Year for his dedication and performance.
A native of DeSoto, Texas, Young earned his bachelor's degree in Human Sciences with a focus in Kinesiology, Fitness & Recreation and a minor in Business Management from HSU in 2022. He completed his Master's in Sports Management from DBU in 2025.
"I'm thrilled to add Caleb to our staff here at UTD," said Fleming. "I had the opportunity to compete against Caleb in some huge games while he was at Hardin-Simmons, and witnessed the work ethic and energy he brought to their program. Caleb will bring a wealth of Lone Star Conference experience from his last two years at DBU. He will be a great resource for our athletes to help them with the adjustment to the league. I'm excited for him to get started, and have no doubt he will be a huge addition to our program!"
Kiser, a 2024 UT Dallas alumnus with a degree in Healthcare Studies, returns as a graduate assistant coach.
He spent three seasons playing for the Comets and recorded 639 points (8.3 per game), 342 rebounds, 350 assists, 144 steals and seven blocked shots over 77 games. He also shot 44.2 percent from the field and 73.6 percent from the free-throw line while draining 52 three-pointers. Kiser finished his tenure ranked third in career assists, second in assists per game, third in assist/turnover ratio, fourth in steals and second in steals per game.
He was the 2023-24 American Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year while helping the Comets to a conference title and to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Kiser was a two-time All-ASC selection and the 2021-22 ASC Freshman of the Year. He also earned Academic All-ASC honors three times and was on the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team in 2023-24.Â
Kiser finished his playing career at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas, where he appeared in 33 games and recorded 87 points, 58 rebounds, 82 assists and 36 steals. He was selected to the NABC Honors Court and played in the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament.
A native of Burnet, Texas, Kiser was a four-time First Team All-District selection for Burnet High School. He was the District MVP, First Team All-Region and Academic All-State as a senior.
"I'm excited to welcome Luke back into our program this year as a graduate assistant," Fleming said. "Luke has a long legacy here as a player, culminating in helping lead us to an ASC championship in 2023 as an all-conference player. I'm looking forward to how Luke can impact our program now as a coach. I know that his experience will be invaluable to our guards in helping them grow as players."
Kiser is pursuing his Master's in Business Administration at UTD.
