GEORGETOWN, Texas - Both of the UT Dallas cross country teams finished in fourth place at the Southwestern Showdown on the campus of Southwestern University Saturday morning.
Results
The Comet women recorded 94 points, finishing behind McMurry (60), East Texas Baptist (60) and Mary Hardin-Baylor (64) and were ahead of Southwestern (119), Texas Running Club (130) and Concordia Texas (193).
Junior
Rebeca Betanzo was the top collegiate finisher, placing second with a career-best 6K mark of 24:16.0.
Jocelyn Heckenkamp also recorded a personal best time of 26:38.6.
Freshman
Emily Skrabanek (23rd, 27:17.4), sophomore
Abby Valdez (26th, 27:32.9) and freshmanÂ
Becki Jeffery (28th, 27:49.6) rounded out the scoring for UTD.
Resting several of the men's top runners, the Comets still managed to score 85 points, finishing behind host Southwestern (42), McMurry (44) and Concordia Texas (53), while beating out ETBU (127), Texas Running Club (181), UMHB (205) Huston-Tillotson (233), Schreiner (262) and UNT-Dallas (309).
Freshman
Barak Geary led UTD with an 8K mark of 28:20.6, placing 11th.
Colton Dillard (29:07.0),
Jayden Chambless (29:10.3) and Jarry Wang (29:15.0) finished 16th, 17th and 18th, respectively. Freshman
Aadhi Sivakumar was the final scorer for UTD, placing 23rd in 29:36.8.
The Comets will take off next week before returning to action Saturday, September 30 at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
