FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The UT Dallas cross country teams executed an impressive performance at the Chile Pepper XC Festival at Agri Park Friday.
The Comet men won the Prairie Fire race, scoring 65 points, just ahead of Southwest Baptist with 71. UTD topped six NCAA Division II and three Division III squads in the 31-team field.
Junior
Graeme Maclean paced the Comets with a sixth place finishing, completing the 8K course in 26:37.0.
Christopher Castro took 14th place in 27:09.5 and freshman
Frank Douglas was 16th in 27:11.5.
Matthew Chimitt also graced the top 20 at 18th in 27:20.1.
Devan Bailey rounded out the scoring in 27:35.5 for a 27th-place finish.
UTD's women finished fourth out of 23 teams, scoring 157 points. Minot State won the Prairie Fire women's division with 97 points, followed by Cowley (119) and Butler CC (157).Â
Junior
Rebeca Betanzo was a third place finisher, running the 5K in 18:54.9. Her time was the second-best in program history and just 2.5 off of Lindsey Rayborn's record.
Sag Herrera was 20th in 20:07.9 and freshman
Maiyah Phoummarath was 44th in 21:23.7.
Jocelyn Heckenkamp was just behind in 2:26.7, finishing 45th. Freshman
Emily Skrabanek took 56th in 21:51.3.
The Comets will compete at the DBU Old Glory Gallop on Saturday, October 7 in Grand Prairie, Texas.
