AMARILLO, Texas - The UT Dallas men's golf team wrapped up the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational hosted by West Texas A&M at the Amarillo Country Club Tuesday.
The Comets finished 16th out of 17 teams, which included five ranked teams and three more receiving votes in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division II Top 25. They shot a 291-271-289=859 for a +19. The three-round tally of 859 is the fourth-best 54-hole score in program history.
Graduate student
Daniel Shofner anchored the Comets in round three by shooting even par. He ended the tournament with a 73-72-70=215 (+5), tying for 44th. Junior
Tyler Durden shot two-over 72s in all three rounds for a +6/216 and tying for 53rd.
Sophomore
Reese Tortone, who led UTD with 11 birdies in the tournament, tied for 62nd at 73-66-78=217 (+7). Sophomore
Hunter Wolfinger was 75th with a 78-69-73=220 (+10) and graduate
Parker McCurdy shot a 73-74-74=221 (+11) for 76th place.
Shofner, Durden, Wolfinger and McCurdy each made eight birdies in the three rounds. Shofner and Tortone also sunk an eagle each.
The Comets will return to action on Monday, October 14 at the Wayland Baptist Intivational in Plainview, Texas.
