DESOTO, Texas - UT Dallas senior
Davis Archer was the top finisher at the Texas Cup, while the #14 Comets placed second at Thorntree Country Club Tuesday.
Archer shot an impressive -5 with a 71-69-71=211. His 54-hole tally is tied for the fifth-lowest in program history. It was also Archer's first tournament victory.
Sophomore
Tyler Durden took runner-up honors with a 72-72-69=213 (-3). Both Archer and Durden were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Comets had the best team score in the third round, coming up with a 284 (-4). They ended with a 54-hole score of 865 (+1) finishing two strokes behind LeTourneau (863/-1).
Trinity (Texas) was third with an 872 (+8) and the UTD B Team took fourth (877/+13) in the 10-team field. The Comets' top squad score was the fourth-lowest in school history.
Daniel Shoftner was ninth with a 77-69-71=217 (+1) and
Andrew Chow was tied for 10th with a 71-77-72=220 (+4). Charles Lippa and
David Salazar each tied for 15th with a +7 223.
Lippa was one of six players in the tournament to card an eagle. Archer and Shofner each made 12 birdies.
UTD has also shattered the team season birdie record. The old mark of 358 was set last season and this year's team has 453 with at least three tournaments to play.
Shofner also added to his career birdie record, moving the total to 193.
The Comets will be back in action at the Linda Lowery Invitational beginning Monday, March 25 at The Hills Country Club in Austin.
