GRANBURY, Texas - UT Dallas senior
Daniel Shofner won the individual title at the 2024 American Southwest Conference Championship in a playoff at The Nutcracker Golf Course Sunday afternoon.
Shofner, who shot a 69-70=139 for a -4, tied Concordia Texas' Parker Smith after two rounds, but earned medalist after making a birdie on the first playoff hole.
Meanwhile, the #14 Comets were the runner-up as a team after a one-hole team playoff with LeTourneau. UTD shot a 294-281=575, for a +3. Concordia placed third with a +13, 10-strokes behind the YellowJackets and Comets in the eight-team field.
Along with Shofner,
Davis Archer made the All-Tournament Team, tying for fifth place with a 72-72=144 (+1).
Parker McCurdy tied for the best second-round score, tying for seventh at 77-68=145 (+2). Sophomore
Cole Wiley shot an 82-71=153 (+10), placing 28th and
Tyler Durden had a 78-79=155 (+12), tying for 29th.
Shofner was tied for the field lead with 11 birdies. He is the third individual medalist in school history.
UTD will have to wait until Monday, May 6 to see if they will be selected as an at-large to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship in Boulder Creek, Nev.
