ABILENE, Texas - The UT Dallas track & field teams open the 2024 American Southwest Conference Championships at Wilford Moore Stadium on the campus of McMurry beginning Thursday and lasting through Saturday.
Last year the Comet men placed fourth at the meet while the women had their best finish in the three-year history of the program, taking sixth. This year UTD is deeper with more student-athletes across more events.
Senior
Graeme Maclean is a two-time ASC champion in the 1,500 meters and is coming off a school-record performance at Arkansas last weekend. He also won the 800 meters in 2021. Maclean has the top 800 time in the league this season in 1:56.22 as well as the best mark in the 1,500 in 3:55.61.
Senior
Devan Bailey is the two-time defending champion in the 10,000 meters and has finished first and second, respectively, the last two seasons in the 5K. He has the fastest 10K mark in the conference (32:12.12) and is fourth in the 5,000 meters (15:50.03).Â
Senior
Kameron Quinn ranks 23rd in the nation and third in the ASCÂ with a 21.47 second time in the 200 meters. He is also fourth in conference with a 10.60 100-meter dash mark. Quinn earned all-conference second team honors as part of the 4x400 relay team a year ago.
Freshman
Zach Sell ranks in the top 45 in the country in both the 110 meter and 400 meter hurdles. He is second in the league with a 54.79 time in the 400 and fourth at 14.74 in the 110 hurdles. Sell also has the sixth-best high jump.
Freshman
Frank Douglas is a contender in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, coming into the meet with the third-best time of 9:55.53 in the conference.
On the women's side, junior
Sage Herrera became the first Comet to win an event in school history last year with a first-place finish in the 800 meters. She comes into the weekend ranking fourth in the event in 2:22.91 and has the sixth-best 1,500 time in the league in 5:03.96.
Freshman
Randi Beckham has the second-best 400 meter dash time in the ASC in 59.19 and is sixth in the 200 (26.12) and seventh in the 100 (12.74.). Freshman
Amaiyah Harrison looks to place in the 100 hurdles, entering the meet with a 16.35 second mark and in fourth.Â
Nora Daub broke the school pole vault record, clearing 2.85 meters (9 ft.-4.25 in.), which is the third best in the ASC. Sophomore Hanna Chelalli has the fourth-best triple jump at 8.78 meters and
Chisom Mbah is fourth with a shot put of 11.43 meters.
