RICHARDSON, Texas - UT Dallas swept the American Southwest Conference Track & Field Athletes of the Week on Tuesday. Freshman
Nick Hofer was named the men's track award winner, while sophomore
Zachary Carroll was the field recipient. For the Comet women, freshman
Rowen Hughes claimed the track honor and junior
Chisom Mbah took the field award.
Hofer, from Broomfield, Colo., recorded the top 400-meter hurdle time in the ASC this season at the SMU Invite. He ran the event in 58.92 seconds, placing eighth in a NCAA Division I field. Hofer was an ASC Field Athlete of the Week earlier this season.
Carroll, of Wichita Falls, Texas, broke the UT Dallas record in the javelin throw at the SMU Invite Saturday. He won the event with a throw of 46.95 meters (154 ft.), which ranks second in the American Southwest Conference. He also placed ninth in the long jump, clearing 6.40 meters (21 ft.).
Hughes, from Waxahachie, Texas, broke the UT Dallas record in both hurdle events at the SMU Invite in Dallas Saturday. She finished sixth in the 400 hurdles in 1:06.58 and placed 15th in the 100 hurdles in 15.58 seconds. Hughes has the best 400-meter hurdle time in the ASC and is second in the 100.
Mbah, of Frisco, Texas, broke school records in both the shot put and discus at the SMU Invite Saturday. She placed fourth in both events, with a new record of 12.42 meters (40 ft.-9 in.) in the shot and 34.36 meters (112 ft.-9 in.) in the discus. Mbah has the best shot put mark in the ASC this season and ranks third in discus. This is her second Field Athlete of the Week honors of the season and third of her career.
