"My experience as a scholar-athlete at UTD tested and strengthened my commitment to excellence," said Bailey. "I came to UTD as a National Merit Scholar majoring in Mathematics. Balancing and finishing a Bachelor's and Master's degree within the four years provided by my scholarship while also training rigorously for my sport was difficult. However, it was achievable. With the generous and unwavering support of my coaches and team, I became an Academic All-American, a three-time 10,000-meter champion, a two-time 5,000-meter champion, a two-time team conference champion in cross country, and, most importantly to me, graduated with a Master's degree in Statistics. At the same time, as one of the senior members of the team, I mentored my teammates on their college experience, giving academic, athletic, and life advice. Overall, my experience at UTD has shown me that personal discipline and a supportive community can lead one to greater heights than they could have imagined."
Bailey is the first ASC Man of the Year from UT Dallas in the three-year history of the award.
Senior tennis player Rebecca Jackson was the Comets' nominee for ASC Woman of the Year.
