BRISTOL, Tenn. - The UT Dallas men's golf team jumped seven spots in the final round of the King University Invitational to place third at the Golf Club of Bristol Tuesday.
The Comets, who were in 10th place after the first round, shot nine under par in round two, for a final score of 289+271=560 (E). Tuesday's score was the second-best 18-hole score in team history and the 36-hole tally was also second. Four Comets shot par or better in the final round.
Host King and Tusculum tied for top spot with a -9, 551 out of 12 teams. UTD finished ahead of Belmont Abbey (564/+4), who was receiving votes in the latest Golf Coaches Association of American Division II Poll.
Graduate student
Daniel Shofner was the top Comet, tying for ninth. He recorded a -2 score of 70-68=138 and sank nine birdies for the tournament.
Fellow graduate student
Parker McCurdy had the second-lowest score of the day and tied the UTD record for lowest round with a -4, 66. He finished tied for 16th at 74-66=140 (E).Â
Sophomores
Reese Tortone and
Hunter Wolfinger tied for 25th overall with a combined score of 143 (+3). Wolfinger finished with a -3, 67 Tuesday. Junior
Tyler Durden was tied for 28th with a +4, 144.
McCurdy finished the tournament with seven birdies and an eagle and Wolfinger also made seven birdies. Tortone had six birdies and Durden came up with five birdies and an eagle.
The Comets will return to action on Monday, October 7 at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational hosted by West Texas A&M in Amarillo.
