FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - For the second consecutive season, the UT Dallas men's cross country team won the 8K Prairie Fire race at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival at Agri Park Saturday.
In a field of 25 teams, the Comets scored 79 points, placing ahead of Northwest Arkansas' 106.Â
Sophomore
Frank Douglas was UTD's top finisher for the third time this season. He placed seventh in 26:53.8. Junior
Christopher Castro was 11th in 27:08.7 and senior
Matthew Chimitt took 14th in 27:21.6. Senior
John Youssef followed with a time of 27:32.0 for 17th and freshman
Nicholas Holland ran a season-best 28:10.8, finishing 30th.
The meet was the 16th the Comets have won since 2012.Â
The women placed 23rd of 27 in the Harter's Habanero 5K which featured several top NCAA Division I programs in the country.Â
Freshman
Bharvi Varu shaved almost 1:12 off her previous best to be the top Comet. She finished 154th in 19:35.6. Senior
Sage Herrera was 185th in 20:15.4 and senior
Rebeca Betanzo took 193rd in 20:29.6. Rounding out the scoring were a pair of sophomores in
Becki Jeffery with a personal-best (21:02.7/208th) and
Emily Skrabanek (21:15.8/212th).
UTD will compete again at the DBU Old Glory Gallop in Grand Prairie, Texas on Saturday, October 5.
