ROCKWALL, Texas - The UT Dallas men's golf team took first place at the Texas Cup at Buffalo Creek Country Club Monday.
The Comets won the tournament by 24 shots while shooting a 296-293=301=890 (+38). The UTD B Team took second place with a 302-310-302=914 (+62), followed by LeTourneau (917/+65), Dallas (930/+78) and East Texas Baptist (962/+110).
Individually, graduate student
Parker McCurdy took medalist honors after defeating junior teammate
Tyler Durden in a three-hole playoff. McCurdy shot an 74-73-73=220 (+7) and Durden had a 72-71-77=220 (+7).
Hunter Wolfinger led the B Team with a third place finish at 74-76-73=223 (+10).
Sophomore
Reese Tortone fired a 75-74-75=224 (+11), tying for fourth. Senior
Jarrett Grinnell was tied for sixth with a 75-76-76=227 (+14).
Daniel Shofner and
Cade Eldridge tied for ninth with a +17, 230.Â
Durden, Wolfinger and Shofner led the Comets with nine birdies.
The Comets will be off until Monday, April 7 at the Battle at Riverhill in Kerrville, Texas.
