WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The UT Dallas men's cross country team won the Mustang Derby while the women took fourth place at Lake Wichita Park Thursday morning.
Sophomore
Alex Bozhilov broke the school record on 6,000-meter course for the men, while the sophomore
Alexia Callahan broke the women's 4K program record.
The men recorded 41 points, besting out Lone Star Coference rival Cameron (46), Ranger (72), DBU (76), Mid-America Christian (124) and Oklahoma Christian (134).
Bozhilov placed third overall with a time of 18:42.3, breaking the 12-year old record by 1:04. UTD also had graduate student
Ethan Turner (19:10.8), freshman
Alan Sutherland (19:22.4) and junior
Frank Douglas (19:30.1) finish in sixth, seventh and eighth places, respectively. Freshman
Matthew Beatty rounded out the scoring for the Comets with a 25th-place finish in 20:15.0.
The UTD women scored 127 points, behind host Midwestern State (26), Ranger (55) and Cameron (59) and ahead of North Central Texas (142), MAC (1:30.50), Cisco (19:20) and Science & Arts-Oklahoma (218).
Callahan broke a six-year old record by 1:40 with a time of 15:34.3, placing 16th. Sophomore
Bharvi Varu was 26th in 16:12.8 and junior
Ellie Suo-Anttila completed the course in 17:57.6 good for 45th place. Freshman
Brianne Vasquez was 46th in 17:59.8 in her collegiate debut and senior
Abby Valdez took 49th in 18:19.3.
The Comets will be in action again on Friday, September 26 at The Hill Cross Country Classic in Hillsboro, Texas.
