TYLER, Texas - The UT Dallas cross country teams kicked off the 2025 campaign with strong performances at the UT Tyler Cross Country Opener at the Texas Rose Horse Park Saturday morning. The Comet men finished second out of 12 teams while the women were fourth in a field of 10.
UTD scored 71 points in the men's race, behind only the host Patriots' 24. The Comets bested NCAA Division I and II squads, 50 points ahead of third-place finisher Northwestern Oklahoma State.Â
Sophomore transfer
Alex Bozhilov paced UTD with a third-place finish and an 8K time of 26:00.78 - the 16th fastest mark in program history. Graduate student
Ethan Turner was eighth in 26:53.17 and junior
Frank Douglas took 11th in 27:04.91. Freshman
Alan Sutherland placed 20th in 27:32.13 in his collegiate debut. Sophomore
Euaiel Aklile recorded a personal-best 8K mark of 28:16.06 to round out the scoring in 36th place.
In the women's competition, UTT were first with 17 points, ahead of St. Edward's (75), East Texas A&M (76), UT Dallas (125) and Prairie View A&M (129).Â
Sophomore newcomer
Alexia Callahan led the Comets in 20:18.86 for 16th place in the 5K run. Sophomore
Bharvi Varu was 18th in 20:33.40 and junior
Ellie Suo-Anttila had a new personal-best time of 20:36.82 for 20th place. Freshman
Lili-Mai Pigeon had a time of 21:27.39 for 36th and senior
Abby Valdez was 47th in 22:50.97.
UTD will return to action on Thursday at the Mustang Derby in Wichita Falls, Texas.
