Box Score RICHARDSON, TX - The UT Dallas men's basketball team is still undefeated, but needed a strong second-half performance to shake off Sul Ross State for a 73-53 victory.
The Comets (6-0, 3-0 in the American Southwest Conference) opened the game shooting just 30.8 % and had to rally to take a tenuous 30-28 halftime lead. But in the second period, the UTD shooters came to life once again, burying 18-32 shots (56.3%) and left the Lobos (2-4, 2-2) in their wake.
Both teams started slowly, but the Lobos finally cracked the Comet defense early and built as much as a six-point first-half lead (16-10 at 10:16). UTD, though, started chipping away and used a 17-10 run to take its first lead (27-26) with 4:05 remaining before the half and were up 30-28 at intermission.
The second half began with a 12-4 UTD run and the Comets had a 42-32 advantage just 4:50 in. The Lobos narrowed that to four points at 42-38 with a pair of three-pointers, but UTD responded by scoring nine unanswered points and were up 53-38 with 10:39 left. SRSU never got closer than 11 poins again and did not score a basket from the field in the game's final 3:20.
Despite an athletic and physical lineup, the Lobos were out-rebounded 44-31 and UTD scored the majority of its second-half points inside.
Brandon Greene topped the Comet scorers with 18 points, 13 of which came in the second half.
Temaine Wright has 12 points as did freshman reserve
Chris Barnes, who added 5 rebounds.
