Box Score RICHARDSON, TX (01.10.09) - The UT Dallas men's basketball finished up its run through the American Southwest Conference West Division Saturday with a 7-1 mark after running and gunning its way past Schreiner, 78-48.
.jpg" alt="" />Twelve different Comets (12-1, 7-1) got into the scoring column as UTD used a balanced attack to dispose of the 1-10, 1-7 Mountaineers in quick fashion. UTD had just two players finish in double figure scoring (
Brandon Greene and
Jimmy Witten with 11 points each), but got contributions up and down the lineup.
The Comets held Schreiner to just 29.5 percent shooting and stopped the Mountaineers cold in the first half, allowing just 6-of-31 shooting as UTD built a 42-16 lead. The Comets finished the day with a 56.9 percent performance, hitting 53 percent in the first half and over 61 percent in the second period.
UTD stretched out its 26-point halftime advantage with a 15-6 run to start the second half and were up by 35 (57-22) when Coach
Terry Butterfield began substituting liberally. The second-string, however, surrendered a quick 11-0 run over the course of 1:30 to get Schreiner back to within 24 (57-33) with 10:57 left in the game and the starters returned until late. The Comets closed the game with a 21-17 advantage to claim the win.
The Comets again dominated the boards, winning the rebounding battle, 47-25; and converted on 8-of-18 three-point shots.
Jordan Eppink finished the afternoon with nine rebounds to go with his nine-points.
UTD enters East Division play tied atop the ASC East Division with LeTourneau, which lost a 65-63 game with West leader McMurry on Thursday. The Comets open their double round-robin schedule against East Division teams on Thursday when they host East Texas Baptist with LeTourneau scheduled in on Saturday.
