RICHARDSON, TX (09.01.09) – Tierney Hughes, a Dallas native who played collegiate basketball at Trinity University in San Antonio, has been named as the new Assistant Women's Basketball and Golf Coach at the University of Texas at Dallas.
Hughes, who played against the Comets in her final collegiate season, replaces Matt Wallis, who was hired this summer as the Head Women's Basketball Coach at American Southwest Conference rival Schreiner University.
A graduate of Dallas Bishop Lynch High School, Hughes played on three state championship teams in high school. She began her collegiate career at Newman University in Wichita, Kansas, before transferring to Trinity, where she was a team captain and played against UTD in 2007. She graduated from Trinity with a degree in communications and sociology in 2008.
Hughes has coached at several basketball camps with Trinity University and Bishop Lynch HS over the past two years as well as worked with club teams.
