RICHARDSON, TX (03.14.11) -
The UT Dallas baseball team used seven straight hits to open the seventh frame as the Comets battled from behind to collect a 7-3 home win over non-conference rival Austin College Monday afternoon at the UTD Baseball Field.

Kyle Guest Batting
Trailing 3-0 entering the home half of the seventh, junior Kyle Guest launched his second home of the season over the left field wall on 2-0 count from Austin College starter Tyler Steed. Guest's long ball would ignite a Comet offense that struggled throughout the afternoon as UTD would collect seven straight hits before recording an out.

Joseph Killgore Mug
After singles by senior Garet Norton and junior Colton Wood, freshman Matt Olszewski trimmed the deficit to 3-2 with a single to left field, scoring Norton from third. Junior Jacob Starnes then reached on a bunt single to load the bases and set up a grand slam home run by senior Joseph Killgore. Killgore, who had been hampered with injuries most of the early season, made his first home plate appearance as he hit his first home run of the season to give UTD a 6-3 lead. Senior Jason Diemer followed with a single to right centerfield, but would not score.

The Comets (now 12-8) added one final insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Guest was hit by a pitch to open the frame and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Norton and to third on a wild pitch. Guest later came home on a bunt single by Olszewski.

Cameron Brown Mug
UTD sophomore left-hander T.J. Barnes tossed the first 3.0 innings for the Comets, giving up one earned run on one hit with one strikeout and four walks. After a 2.0-inning outing by junior right-hander Ryan Miner, sophomore right-hander Cameron Brown (1-1) tossed the next 3.0 innings and gave up one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts while picking up the relief win. Junior right-hander Max Willard pitched final frame without giving up a hit to the 'Roos.

Offensively, Olszewski went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Guest ended the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

For AC (now 3-12), Sneed ended his outing after Guest's home run and gave up just one earned run on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts. John Schulmeister then entered to complete the seventh inning and gave up five earned runs on six hits. The 'Roos scored a single run in each the third, fifth and sixth innings.

The Comets return to the diamond this weekend with a three-game American Southwest Conference East Division series at Mississippi College.
